Vietnamese IT giant FPT Group and Korean AI medical device company TR Corporation are joining forces to target the smart healthcare market in Vietnam.
FPT Group is a leading IT conglomerate in Vietnam with operations in 30 countries worldwide, achieving overseas revenue of VND 1 trillion in 2023. While primarily known in Korea as an IT outsourcing company through FPT Software, FPT is a key player in Vietnam's digital transformation, possessing core infrastructure such as cloud, data centers, and dedicated internet lines, and making significant investments in AI and big data. FPT has also signed MOUs with leading Korean IT companies like LG CNS and SK C&C, expanding cooperation in digital transformation, AI, and cloud.
TR Corporation is a Korean digital healthcare company specializing in the development and manufacturing of AI-based medical devices. TR has experience in carrying out major projects for the Korean government, including the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its flagship product, Spirokit, provides a solution for early detection of respiratory diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and helps patients actively monitor their health status at home.
FPT and TR Sign MOU for AI-Powered Smart Healthcare Collaboration
FPT Group and TR Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), establishing a strategic partnership to drive the application of advanced technologies, particularly AI, in smart healthcare for chronic disease management in Vietnam.
The role of Creww Korea, an accelerator supporting the global expansion of Korean startups into markets like Japan and other parts of Asia, was crucial in facilitating this agreement. Creww Korea conducted preliminary reviews of the technological and business collaboration potential between the two companies and connected them with significant hospital and investor networks in Vietnam, laying the groundwork for practical business development. In particular, Creww Korea played a pivotal role as a mediator, ensuring that both FPT and TR secured business rationale and feasibility, and strategically designed a pathway for Korean digital healthcare technology to enter the Vietnamese healthcare system, making them a key contributor to this MOU.
AI-Powered Smart Healthcare Solution Collaboration Details
The two parties have formalized research and development cooperation to integrate Spirokit, an AI-powered smart lung function measurement device, with FPT's Chronic Care Management System. This will enable patients to accurately monitor their health at home, while healthcare professionals can remotely access real-time data and develop more effective treatment plans.
Vietnam currently has about 21% of its population suffering from non-communicable chronic diseases, with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) being particularly prevalent. As air pollution problems worsen in major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the incidence of respiratory diseases is increasing, highlighting the growing need for effective chronic disease monitoring systems.
Expected Benefits and Future Strategies
With over 36 years of collaboration with governments, businesses, and various organizations, FPT is at the forefront of developing and deploying digital solutions for the healthcare sector. Through this collaboration, FPT is developing a chronic disease-specific management software system designed to enable patients to proactively detect early signs and monitor their health at home, while synchronizing data with healthcare institutions in real-time to provide more effective treatment solutions.
TR plans to optimize its products for the Vietnamese market and upgrade its technology through continuous research and development. Furthermore, with support for compliance with Vietnamese legal regulations, TR will collaborate with FPT on clinical trials of its products and establish a medical device supply chain suitable for the Vietnamese healthcare market.
